Reunited With My “First Love”

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

As you’ve already read, I have had a love affair with chocolate before I was able to walk. However, there was once a time when my love for chocolate was not returned by this delightful substance. Rather, I experienced a host of symptoms that led me to get checked by my dermatologist. On that day I found out I was “allergic” to this indulgence.

I don’t know about you, but being an avid chocolate fan, such news was absolutely crushing! I never would have thought that abstaining from it was going to be such a challenge. Nevertheless, it was an issue I contended with for YEARS. Despite being happy to watch family and friends enjoy my “vice” of choice, it was agonizing not being able to enjoy the experience with them.

Fortunately, my husband came across an article a few years back that changed everything. I talk more about this in my book “In Pursuit of Purity, The Paris Chocolate Files” so I won’t go into much detail here. But I will say to look at the ingredients in the chocolate you are consuming as not all chocolate is made the same. Here’s an article that talks about some of the common ingredients found in mass produced chocolate entitled, “Ingredients in Chocolate: What’s in my Bar?”

While the magazine that housed the article that my husband found is long gone, here is an internet post that may be helpful for chocolate lovers who suspect they are allergic to it. Perhaps, like me, it isn’t the chocolate itself that you are allergic to but the additional ingredients that you are reacting to??? It was a possibility that I had never even considered. It might behoove you to check into it. Click here to read “Is It Possible to Be Allergic to Chocolate?”

If you’ve had a similar experience, I would love to hear from you. And, if you have any helpful articles I’d appreciate it if you would send those links my way as it is always beneficial to share useful information. Thanks! Click here and let’s connect!
